3D tablet without glasses: Nubia Pad 3D on display at MWC
No glasses are required for three-dimensional objects on the Nubia Pad 3D. This makes a good impression at the MWC trade fair stand.
The Nubia Pad 3D is a 12.4-inch Android tablet with a stereoscopic screen. It can display images with different perspectives in rapid succession. This gives the human eye the impression of a three-dimensional image.
Android tablet with 3D display
The tablet recognises a face in front of it with its cameras and switches its display to 3D mode in suitable apps. Special glasses are not required to view three-dimensional content. Although the tablet is only intended for one person, the 3D effect also works well for two people.
When I tried it out, I found it very pleasant and impressive with objects that I moved in free space. I was less happy with the 3D view when playing games. The two installed games strained my eyes very quickly and were therefore not much fun.
Various 3D applications from Leia are pre-installed on the Nubia Pad. The company sells the tablet in the USA as the Lume Pad 2, while ZTE sells it in other countries as the Nubia Pad 3D. Leia's programmes include a viewer for 3D models, a video chat app, a tool for converting photos into 3D and an app for the tablet's 3D camera. Leiatube is designed to convert YouTube videos into 3D and LeiaFlix is a streaming service for 3D videos in the USA. Further 3D applications can be found in the Leia Appstore.
Snapdragon 888 and Android 12 L
Leia and ZTE appear to have been working on the 3D tablet for some time. At least some of the features suggest this. The Snapdragon 888 processor in particular looks old, but is sufficient to provide enough power at the trade fair stand. It is supported by eight gigabytes of RAM. You can expand the 128 gigabyte internal memory with a microSD card.
The 12.4-inch display has a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120 hertz. The operating system is Android 12L, which is optimised for tablets. There is no information on updates yet. The Nubia Tab 3D charges its 9070 mAh battery with a 33-watt power adapter.
The Nubia Pad 3D is set to go on sale in April. It will cost 1099 dollars in the USA. Exact prices in this country are not yet known.
