CES 2023: New type of e-ink glasses presented
E-readers used to be one thing above all: rectangular. This form factor is now facing competition. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the company "Sol" is presenting e-ink glasses.
Does your e-reader sometimes land on your face with a dull "plop" when you're reading? Then you might be interested in the "Sol Reader". These are a new type of e-ink glasses that the company "Sol" presented at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The e-ink glasses weigh less than 100 grams. They are designed to allow you to read books more comfortably and hands-free.
How it works
You put on the glasses, select the right dioptre for your eyes using the dial and set off on your reading adventure. The text appears on two separate e-ink displays, with the square book pages floating in front of a black background. You look through so-called pancake lenses, which are also used for virtual reality devices.

The Sol Reader is equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB-C port. You can't do anything else with the reader except read. But you can do this for 30 hours at a time on a full battery charge.
The glasses do not work completely hands-free, however. To turn a page, you have to use a remote control. In the video by Youtuber "SadlyItsBradley", you can see that they are relatively unobtrusive in the hand.
Availability unclear
Sol wants to sell the e-ink glasses for 350 US dollars. However, it is still unclear where and when you can buy the device. Interested parties can only register for a "wishlist" on the company's website.
