Endura Hummvee
Endura Hummvee test – shorts with extra pants inside
Apparently, they’ve been co-developed by London bike couriers – Endura’s iconic Hummvee baggy shorts. With their removable inner shorts including a seat pad, they’re just my thing.
I like being comfortable when things get uncomfortable. What may seem like a contradiction at first glance makes perfect sense on closer inspection. Take cycling shorts, for example. I’m used to riding my gravel bike with bib shorts . They’re equipped with a seat pad to prevent a sore bottom. So far, it’s worked for me without any problems.
I’d like the same thing, i.e. a non-sore butt, on my mountain bike too. But within my MTB group, who kindly let me ride along as a beginner, the motto is clear: baggy, not tight. Looks like I need new bike clothes. Simply putting a pair of baggy shorts on over my bib shorts isn’t a good idea since the shorts will ride up and down. So, I got the Hummvee from Endura with inner pants.

Endura Hummvee: lots of space on the outside, extra pants on the inside
The Hummvee is made of robust nylon and offers plenty of storage space with its various pockets. If you want, you can stuff your shorts with all kinds of things. Overly full saddle bags are annoying, so one possible solution to this problem is a hip bag. Endura has used double stitching in key areas to make the pants even more robust. The whole thing really makes a very secure impression.
For me, however, the best thing about the Hummvee is the Clickfast inner pants. It’s made from a lightweight stretchy mesh material and an elasticated waistband as well as silicone handles. The seat pad comes from the Endura 200 series. In terms of quality, it can’t quite keep up with the GV500 from Endura, but it does the job. After about three hours of bumpy trails, I start to feel my backside. But that’s usually also the moment I head home. The inner shorts can be easily attached or removed using the Clickfast system and combined with other shorts, such as the GV500 Foyle.
Comfortable when things get uncomfortable
Speaking of «comfortable when things gets uncomfortable»: the Endura Hummvee doesn’t make me any better on the trail, but at least I no longer have to worry about my clothing slipping. Now I can fully focus on rattling down a forest path:
