iSIM instead of eSIM: Qualcomm continues to develop the virtual SIM card
The iSIM is to replace the eSIM. But don't panic, it's only a change to the components. The use of the virtual SIM card remains unchanged.
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Qualcomm announced the launch of the iSIM. The abbreviation stands for "Integrated SIM". This changes where the eSIM is stored on the smartphone
One less component in the smartphone
The iSIM does not replace the eSIM. It will not change the way you load the virtual SIM card onto your smartphone in future. With iSIM, it will just be stored in a different location. Previously, an extra chip was required for this. In future, the digital SIM will be located directly on the processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the first to be able to do this. You can prepare yourself for top smartphones supporting iSIM this year and the technology coming to cheaper devices from 2024.
Smartphone manufacturers will be able to save a component in the future. This makes the design slightly easier and even creates a little more space for other components. However, the chip for the eSIM is very small, which means that the battery, for example, can hardly get any bigger.
Qualcomm expects 300 million iSIMs to be in use by 2027.

Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
