Motorola RIZR: Lenovo rolls out displays for smartphones and laptops
While it feels like there are foldable smartphones on display at every other stand at the MWC, Lenovo is already looking to the future and is showing a smartphone and a laptop with a rollable display.
The Motorola RIZR concept smartphone can extend its display from 5 to 6.5 inches. The nameless laptop enlarges its screen from 12.7 to 15.3 inches.
The display rolls onto the back
For a five-inch smartphone, the RIZR looks very chunky. But it is not yet a device that will go on sale. Its sole purpose is to demonstrate the rollable display.
The display of the Motorola RIZR continues on the back. This is where it stows its additional surface area when rolled up. Side effect: You can take selfies with the two cameras on the back and see yourself on the screen. The concept smartphone does not have a classic front camera.
Notebook with square displays
Lenovo already showed the notebook with a rollable display at its in-house trade fair Tech World in October - but only online in a stream. It can now be seen live at the MWC in Barcelona - at the trade fair stand, but only behind glass.

By rolling out from 12.7 to 15.3 inches, the monitor becomes almost square. A rather unusual shape for notebook displays, but quite practical depending on use. However, it will hardly replace a pivot function.
As interesting as the two rolling concepts are to look at, Lenovo is not commenting on when we can expect rolling displays in series devices.
