Redmi Note 12 series presented: Xiaomi confuses with four smartphones
Xiaomi has unveiled four new smartphones from the entry-level to mid-range segment, which have major differences despite having very similar names.
Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G: The new smartphones from Xiaomi look very similar. The differences are mainly inside the processor, the sensor of the main camera and the charging speed.
Four similar smartphones from low to medium price
The OLED displays of all four Redmi Note 12s are 6.67 inches in size, have a Full HD+ resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120 hertz. However, only the two Pro models can boast Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Despite the same display dimensions, the Pro models are slightly less long - around three millimetres.
All four Redmi Note 12 have three cameras on the back. Xiaomi specifies a resolution of 13 megapixels for the ultra-wide-angle camera and 2 megapixels for the macro camera. The main cameras differ as follows: Samsung JN1 with 50 megapixels on the Redmi Note 12 and 48 megapixels on the Note 12 5G. Sony IMX766 with 50 megapixels on the Note 12 Pro and a Samsung sensor with 200 megapixels on the Note Pro+. Both Pro models have 16 megapixels for the front camera, while the other two variants have 13 megapixels.
The different processors ensure that the Redmi Note 12 supports different standards. For example, the Snapdragon 685 limits the Redmi Note 12 to 4G, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0. The Redmi Note 12 5G with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 offers 5G and Bluetooth 5.1, but still only Wi-Fi 5. For Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and 5G, you would have to go for the Pro models with the Mediatek Dimensity 1080.
Xiaomi has installed a 5000 mAh battery in each of the four Redmi Note 12s, but they charge at different speeds. Note 12 and Note 12 5G with up to 33 watts. The Note 12 Pro charges at 67 watts and the Note 12 Pro+ at 120 watts, which is as much as the current top model, the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
The memory configuration ranges from four to eight gigabytes of RAM, depending on the model. The internal memory is 64 to 256 gigabytes in size. It can only be expanded with a memory card on the two cheaper variants.
All four Redmi Note 12 models have a fingerprint sensor on the side and a 3.5 mm connection for headphones.
