Transparency regarding countries of origin
Galaxus is adding the country of origin to a growing number of products. We answer the most important questions here.
Transparency is a promise at Digitec Galaxus. We want to provide our customers with as much information as possible about the products in our range. This also includes an indication of origin.
What do we mean by the origin of a product?
Origin can be interpreted in many different ways: is it the country in which a product is assembled? And if it’s assembled at several locations, which one counts? The country from which most of the processed raw materials originate? The country in which it was developed? The country from which the product is delivered? And once you’ve decided on this, what do you call it? Country of origin, country of production, Made In X, X-made? We understand origin to mean country of origin.
What does country of origin mean?
In the legal definition stated by the European Union, country of origin denotes «the country in which the major part of the value was added.» We’re guided by this interpretation.
According to the definition, there can only ever be one unique country of origin per product. Here, country of origin is related to a physical product. In exceptional cases, a product may have several countries of origin. This is because large companies often have different production sites for making the same products. In this case, we will add several countries of origin.
Where can you find information about the origin of a product?
If we know the origin of a product, you’ll find this information in the specifications:
For many product types there’s also a filter for the country of origin. We’re constantly expanding this service to more product types.
