Die Alpha 850 liefert gute Bildwerte, die allerdings mit zunehmender Empfindlichkeit nachlässt. Zudem bietet das Gerät eine hohe Auflösung mit sehr guter Detailwiedergabe. Das Bedienkonzept ist gut, wobei hier ein das Einstellrad schlecht platziert ist.
Bis zur Erscheinung der Sony Alpha 850 konnte der Markt keine Vollformatkamera unter 2000 Euro anbieten. In puncto Geschwindigkeit kommt sie nicht ganz an die Werte vom Flaggschiff Alpha 900 heran, liefert dennoch eine überzeugende Gesamt-Performance, wobei der Fotograf auf einen 100-%-Sucher verzichten muss.
Mit der Alpha 850 bietet Sony einen günstigen Einstieg in die Vollformat-Fotografie. Im Vergleich zur 900er muss der Fotograf jedoch auf einen 100-Prozent-Sucher verzichten.
