A zoom range of 18 to 200 mm (35mm equivalent: 28 to 310 mm) makes lens changes unnecessary in most situations. Photographers can zoom from wide-angle to super-telephoto. The new Tamron 1:3.5-6.3/18-200mm Di II is thus suitable for a variety of shooting purposes - from large group photos to family snapshots and portrait shots, as well as landscape and wildlife photography, and even sports and school events. Close-ups are also possible thanks to a minimum focusing distance of less than 50 centimeters.

Despite the extensive focal length range and the integrated VC image stabilizer (not available for the Sony mount), the new 18-200mm weighs only 400 grams. Even when used with the latest APS-C DSLRs, the lens maintains a balanced feel and offers comfortable handling.

The optical construction consists of 16 elements in 14 groups. One LD (Low Dispersion) element minimizes color fringing (chromatic aberrations). The seven diaphragm blades create an almost circular aperture, even when stopped down by two stops. Light points outside the focus area blur into attractive background bokeh.

Tamron's new travel zoom is splash-proof, providing protection against water splashes or light rain. Additionally, a practical zoom lock is integrated to prevent unwanted extension of the lens barrel during transport.
