Tefal FR8040 Oleoclean Pro Oil Fryer / Deep Fryer
Tefal FR8040 Oleoclean Pro Oil Fryer / Deep Fryer
This is my first deep fryer.
I only need the appliance occasionally, about 3 times a month. The rest of the time, it sits in the cellar with the oil pan. For this purpose, the appliance fully meets my expectations.
For me, the automatic oil filtering and the easy storage of the oil were the reasons for buying this fryer. As far as I know, there is no other appliance that meets these criteria:
After frying, unplug the appliance, tilt the lever and wait 2-3 hours for the oil to filter into the tray - works wonderfully!
Then put all the metal parts in the dishwasher. Done!
I am satisfied with the frying results so far. However: I could not rely on the time and temperature information in the enclosed recipe booklet. The frites and chicken turned out much too dark. I achieved better results by using my "eye" and feeling.
The fryer comes up to temperature quickly. However, my barbecue thermometer found that the oil was only 155 degrees instead of the set 180 degrees when the light was extinguished. The temperature sensors of the deep fryer are located 5mm next to the heating elements. This could influence the measurement...
For the workmanship in general, I would not give more than two stars.
The sheet metal is thin and "thunders" when handled. The lid of the plastic basin does not inspire confidence. I would not dare to carry the basin vertically.
The plastic used seems second-rate.
The sliding mechanism at the oil outlet is wobbly, the spring very light. Hopefully Tefal has spare parts in case something breaks ;-)
In principle, you get a "tin can" with an immersion heater and a plastic basin with a valve for a fair price. Personally, I would pay three times as much if I could get a better made appliance. But this need does not seem to correspond to the spirit of the times...
In fact, there's nothing to complain about at the moment. The unit works great! Only the fear remains that it won't stay that way...

Finally a fryer that is easy to clean and cleans the oil itself after frying. Highly recommended

Hot air and oil-saving fryers or not: If you want crispy fries, you can't get around a "real" fryer (unless you fry smaller portions in a saucepan). The Tefal Oleoclean Pro easily manages four (large) side dish portions in one frying cycle. Unique advantage: the oil can be filtered after each use, allowing it to be used more often. The filtered oil remains stored in the blue "drawer", virtually in the dark, until the next use. The oil pan, lid and frying basket may be placed in the dishwasher. Great!
