Ragnarök has come, and it is the end of the world! Blood Rage is a board game where you control the warriors, the leader, and the ship of your own Viking clan. This is the Vikings' last chance to go down in a blaze of glory and secure their place in Valhalla at Odin's side! For a Viking, there are many paths to glory. You can conquer and plunder the land for its rewards, annihilate your opponents in epic battles, complete quests to increase your clan's stats, or even die gloriously in battle or at Ragnarök, the ultimate inevitable doom.

Most player strategies revolve around the cards drawn at the beginning of each of the three game rounds (or ages). These "gifts of the gods" grant you numerous blessings for your clan, including: increased Viking strength and cunning battle strategies, upgrades for your clan, or even the assistance of legendary creatures from Norse mythology. They may also include various quests, from mastering certain provinces to sending many of your Vikings to Valhalla. Most of these cards are aligned with one of the Norse gods, indicating the type of strategy they support. For example, Thor grants more glory for victory in battle, Heimdall gives you foresight and surprises, Tyr strengthens you in combat, while the trickster Loki actually rewards you for lost battles or punishes the victor.
