Omajin Network camera OMA-OSC-01-EU Solar/battery/HD/alarm system
1920 x 1080 Pixels
Surprisingly, the French smart home specialist Netatmo is launching a new brand: cameras, sockets and a baby monitor are available under the Omajin label.
Nobody expected this. Netatmo has been making a name for itself for over ten years with weather stations as well as smoke detectors, surveillance cameras, smart doorbells and other smart home products. There are currently over 70 products from the French manufacturer available in our store.
Now Netatmo is launching a new subsidiary brand with the name "Omajin by Netatmo" or simply Omajin. The name is a combination of the words "Home" and "Imagine". The idea: the products are cheaper than those from Netatmo, easier to install and operate, but also offer fewer functions.
And what you also need to know: The Omajin gadgets require a separate app and form their own ecosystem. So you can't control Netatmo and Omajin products in the same app.
The new product line will be rolled out immediately and should also be operable with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa by the end of September. Apple Home support is not available, as there was no information on this at the press conference for the launch, even when asked. The cross-manufacturer Smart Home standard Matter is also not supported.
For the launch, Omajin has announced five products, most of which are already available in our shop. Local data storage on the supplied SD cards is included in each case. As soon as you also need cloud storage, you have to take out a plan starting at around 4.50 francs or euros per month. According to Netatmo, the data is stored on Amazon servers in Europe.
This outdoor surveillance camera has no cables or plugs. It is connected to the Omajin app via Wi-Fi. It is powered by integrated solar panels that charge an 8800 mAh battery. Ideally, this is sufficient for continuous operation. The resolution is 1080p and there is also a night vision function. The waterproof camera can recognise people, animals and vehicles. In the event of an alarm, you can trigger the spotlight or a siren.

This second camera is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The 9600 mAh battery must be charged manually. According to the manufacturer, however, "months of autonomy" should still be possible. The other technical features are very similar to those of the solar-powered camera. Incidentally, the wireless camera comes with two different brackets for wall mounting or placing the camera on a stand.

This gadget is also waterproof and can be installed without any cables or plugs. The 6700 mAh battery should last for around ten months before it needs to be recharged. The bell also serves as a security camera with person detection and an integrated siren. Thanks to the microphone and loudspeaker, you can also communicate with people outside the door.
The camera with night vision functions recognises movements and crying and reports this via a notification. You can use the app to play lullabies or white noise, switch on a night light or even talk to your baby. The camera also monitors the temperature and humidity in the room.
On the one hand, you can use the socket to monitor the energy consumption of the connected devices, and on the other hand, you can also switch them on and off via the app. This can also be programmed, for example if a light should always be switched on at a certain time or a presence should be simulated during holidays. The socket can be operated not only via WiFi, but also via Bluetooth.
It is not yet clear when the Swiss version of the product will be available in our shop. The recommended retail price is 20 francs or euros.
The concept sounds promising overall, if the operation and set-up really are as simple as the manufacturer assures. However, the products are clearly only intended for those who want to buy one or two of these smart home gadgets and operate them with as little effort as possible. As soon as networking and in-depth control are required, the Omajin reaches its limits.
Gadgets are my passion - whether you need them for the home office, for the household, for sport and pleasure or for the smart home. Or, of course, for the big hobby next to the family, namely fishing.
