OnePlus 10T presented: A little better, a little worse and a little cheaper
The OnePlus 10T is the cheaper variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro, but in some respects it is even better equipped than the top model. The processor is better and the fast charging function is faster. In return, the manufacturer saves on the camera system and has removed its distinctive alert slider.
Visually, the OnePlus 10T looks very similar to the 10 Pro. However, the Hasselblad logo next to the camera lenses on the back is missing. A clear indication that a different and probably not quite as good camera system as in the Pro model is used. The main camera with the Sony IMX766 and 50 megapixels should still make the smallest difference. With the ultra-wide-angle camera, with only eight megapixels compared to 50 megapixels on the 10 Pro, I expect a visible difference in quality. In addition, the 10T lacks a telephoto lens; its third camera is a macro lens with two megapixels of resolution. The front camera delivers selfies with 16 megapixels.
Many small and some big differences
In terms of performance, however, the 10T is likely to do even better than the 10 Pro. It is equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is supposed to be slightly better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of the 10 Pro. In addition, the OnePlus 10T is available with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM - the 10 Pro has a maximum of 12 gigabytes.
The OnePlus 10T's 4800 mAh battery is 200 mAh smaller and can charge much faster than the 10 Pro. It should be fully charged in 20 minutes with the 150-watt power supply. With the 10 Pro, it takes about 30 minutes with an 80-watt power supply. In return, you do without a wireless charging function on the 10T. In addition, its USB-C port only supports USB 2.0 and not 3.1 as on the 10 Pro.
The AMOLED display of the 10T remains 6.7 inches and still has a maximum refresh rate of 120 hertz. However, OnePlus has reduced the resolution to Full HD+ - compared to QHD+ on the 10 Pro. However, this should still be enough for a sharp image. In addition, OnePlus only uses Gorilla Glass Victus in its top model; the 10T uses Gorilla Glass 5, which is still very stable but nominally less hard.
For long-time OnePlus users, the omission of the Alert Slider may have caused the most disappointment at the presentation of the 10T. The switch, which can be used to switch very quickly between ringing, vibrating and silent, has been a trademark of the manufacturer since the OnePlus One. However, it has already dispensed with it on some of its cheaper Northern models, but now the Alert Slider is missing for the first time from a smartphone located in the upper class.
Price and availability
OnePlus plans to start selling the 10T on 25 August 2022. With 8 and 128 gigabytes of storage, it will cost 699 euros in Germany - with 16 and 256 gigabytes, 799 euros. I do not yet have any price information for Switzerland.
