Your desk setups, part 4: Joshua likes Monster Hunter, RGB and his sea of clouds

Joshua’s gaming setup combines RGB with fluffy clouds. In keeping with his desire to live out his enjoyment of Monster Hunter, a fun-sized monster keeps him company during gaming sessions.
Joshua from Rotkreuz is a computer scientist, soon to begin a technical baccalaureate. By the looks of his home gaming setup, his technical skills haven’t just been put to use at work. As you can see, Joshua’s turned his gaming area into a heavenly RGB kingdom, complete with light-up ceiling.
This blanket of cloud is a feast for the eyes
The contrast Joshua has created between all the cold, hard tech and his ceiling is well worth seeing. He’s lined it with fire-resistant cotton padding – 6.5 kilogrammes of it, to be precise. Despite the sheer amount of it, there’s still the odd gap Joshua wants to plug. He attached the fluffy material using Prime Fix, an industrial adhesive spray. The lighting behind it consists of four Govee LED smart strips, each 10 metres long. Each section can be programmed to generate pretty light shows. They reflect beautifully on the white decorative elements on the wall. You can see it in action in the video below.
Monster Hunter is Joshua’s favourite video game
When it comes to Monster Hunter, Joshua’s a pro. He’s had a passion for it since 2009. Needless to say, he’s eagerly anticipating the new title in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, due to come out next year. With this gaming setup, Joshua’s more than ready for release day. Adding an extra special touch, a Silver Rathalos stands guard on his shelf.
Joshua built his gaming PC himself. A Corsair RGB case houses all of the components. In choosing it, Joshua’s top priority was finding as much space as possible for the cables. He says the case’s white insides make the colourful lighting really come into its own.
Joshua has an Asus ROG Azoth keyboard. He lubed each of its WS Morandi switches individually so that typing on it would feel just right, and is pleased with the keyboard’s velvety sound. To get the best of the RGB lighting, he opted for SteelSeries PrismCaps as keycaps.
More than seven years ago, Joshua set his heart on a Logitech G502 mouse. Once its days were over, there was a clear successor in line: a Logitech G502 X. Though heavier than his old mouse, Joshua enjoys using it – especially the buttons on the sides. They save him some time when he’s working.
Retro treasures and GameCube tournaments
Amongst the modern tech and array of lights, there are some old treasures too. Joshua explains that his family’s amassed a wonderful collection of games over the last few decades. He has particularly fond memories of the GameCube era, his favourite classic being «Super Smash Bros. Melee». For several years now, he and his relatives have been putting their skills to the test in family tournaments.
Other pieces of retro hardware in Joshua’s collection include a PS2 and a Gameboy with a tribal design.

In my world, Super Mario chases Stormtroopers with a unicorn and Harley Quinn mixes cocktails for Eddie and Peter at the beach bar. Wherever I can live out my creativity, my fingers tingle. Or maybe it's because nothing flows through my veins but chocolate, glitter and coffee.
