Patch cables are designed for operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. They are used for signal transmission at high data transfer rates (1 Gbps). Due to the high signal frequencies, careful handling is required during installation and assembly, especially at the connection points of the wires. The individual wire pairs in Cat6 are twisted at different tightness, which further reduces susceptibility to interference compared to Cat5e. Application areas for Cat-6 cables include voice and data transmission as well as multimedia and ATM networks.
